Weekend Rewind

• Great weekend! This was a message I was really passionate about because I’ve been living it out over the last 3 years. My prayer is that it was helpful and gave hope and direction to some who are really hurting right now. And for those who aren’t hurting? File it away. Like Jesus said, trouble WILL come.

• Saturday night we tried a couple of things that just didn’t work. Not sure why, but they just didn’t work. So-o-o, we made some changes for the two Sunday services, which means everyone on our programming and tech teams had to be F-L-E-X-I-B-L-E!! AND THEY WERE!! Everyone worked through the changes with a positive attitude and everything worked out great. It’s great to work with such a great group of volunteers and staff!

• Launched our first ever Christmas Offering this weekend. If you didn’t get an info pack, be sure to pick one up next weekend to see what we’re attempting to do this Christmas. Then start praying about what God would have you do to give sacrificially this Christmas to help us depopulate hell both here and around the world.

• Speaking of Christmas, make sure to be with us for our new Christmas series in December, Have Yourself a MESSY Little Christmas. And make plans now to be in one of our two Christmas Eve services.

• And even though I’m excited about our Christmas plans, I’m not excited about Christmas music yet! This past week I heard Christmas music for the first time. Let me be clear on this – IT’S TOO EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS MUSIC!!

• One final thought before I cash in for the evening: I want to say a big thank you to my fellow NHC’ers. Thank you for letting me share the story of my family and what we’re learning through our loss. Thank you for letting me be real. Thank you for letting me preach from my heart like I did this weekend. Thank you for praying for us and for loving us. Susan and I love you all very much.

I want to thank you for the service also. God has a way of pulling together the things in life in a way we never could. The week before the When Life Hurts service, we dealt with the loss of a neighbor boy-17 years old. Then in my job, (I teaching nursing), I spent the week teaching on palliative care and preparing for death/morgue care. It was extremely rewarding but also draining. Then, sitting in church on Sunday, it all came together for me. I appreciate the honesty and the message. Some days are better when we lose loved ones and some days are REALLY hard. We are not alone on that.

It's never to early for Christmas Music - and I've posted one on my BLOG just for you!

The poem HANG IT ON THE CROSS was so powerful to read after your sermon this past weekend. Thanks for whoever posted it, is has helped me today for sure.

After sharing my notes from your message Sunday with my uncle, he sent me this "poem/song" I had never heard before. I thought I'd share it with you.

HANG IT ON THE CROSS
If you have a secret sorrow,
A burden or a loss,
An aching need for healing...
HANG IT ON THE CROSS
If worry steals you sleep
And makes you turn and toss,
If your heart is feeling heavy...
HANG IT ON THE CROSS
Every obstacle to faith
Or doubt you come across,
Every prayer unanswered...
HANG IT ON THE CROSS
For Christ has born
Our brokenness
And dearly paid the cost
To turn our trials to triumph...
HANG IT ON THE CROSS

I totally agree about the Christmas music! Nick and I were travelling to the mountains this weekend and found TWO stations (one in Boone and the other in Greensboro) that were playing nothing but Christmas music!! AUGH!

Thank you Dave so much for such a wonderful service and thank you for sharing your personal journey with us. I actually had the pleasure of attending school with your daughter at Cresset Christian Academy and I remember and will forever remember her beautiful, God given talent for singing. I know that she is in heaven now singing the most beautiful song.
Just wanted to let you know that God is using your journey as a inspiration to all of us.
God Bless,
Lori
