Wisdom From 24

When the season finale aired Monday night I was sitting in front of the TV, popcorn in hand and ready for a twist that I couldn't forsee. That didn't exactly pan out, but there was a great scene where Vice President Daniels said something that stopped me in my tracks. It's something that everyone needs to think about and take into account when judging leaders whether it's Presidents, Vice Presidents, Pastors - whoever. Here's a blog post I saw today that puts it into perspective. [Read more]

TGIM!

Monday's are great! I know it's back to work day for most folks, but it's my day off. That means golf... grabbing some lunch...catching up on little things around the house...being at home when Arianna gets home from school...reading the paper...downloading some new music from iTunes...and tonight - 24!!

I bet you didn't know this - there's an NHC'er that has appeared in 24 and he's in L.A. right now doing some work on the last few episodes. Paul Beahm, a friend of mine for many years, has made his living as a stunt man. He and his wife Abbey and their kids Hannah and Seth live in the area and attend NHC. I think it's a very cool thing to know somebody in 24! So as soon as I know when he's appearing, I'll let you know!

So here's a question for all you blog readers - what's your favorite TV drama? Let's see if we can get a little poll going...I'll keep track and let you know the results.

24 Is Back!

24 was back stronger than ever last night! I love Jack and the crew, but it got a little slow there for a couple of weeks. But last night was AWESOME! I thought President Palmer was kind of a wimp but the missile strike was off the hook. Then the fake terrorist cell...can't wait for next week!

Jack Is Back!

I  have to admit it - I'm a 24-aholic. So for the last two nights I have been on a 24 binge. I got hooked on this show 2 seasons ago when I watched a 24 marathon one weekend because there was nothing else on. Ever since I haven't missed an episode. It's one of the very few network TV shows I bother to watch.

This weekend's launch of the new season didn't disappoint, which is a major accomplishment in itself. Most network shows that have been on this long tend to wind down by this time. The writers are running out of ideas, the concept is getting old and they just begin to feel routine. But somehow the 24 producers just keep raising the bar every week and viewers like me keep coming back for more.

All this started me thinking about what we do every week at NHC. It's not that we're trying to top last week or put on a bigger and better show every week. If you fall into that trap sooner or later it catches up with you. But we do want to be hitting the mark every week in such a way that it makes someone want to come back. We do need to break out of the routines enough that it makes someone walk away and say, "I wonder what they'll do next week?"

After all, Jack really can't save the world, but we serve someone who can.
