New Music

56472_detail OK, so I’m not a big Christian music fan (whatever “Christian music” is. I still can’t figure out what makes a song “Christian.”) I don’t listen to K-Love, and I don’t buy much Christian music, basically because it’s usually sappy prom songs for Jesus.

But I do like worship music and I’m a fan of Chris Tomlin. I know some think his music is a little on the simple side, but that’s one thing I like about it. One of the trends I’m seeing in worship music right now is to write songs that have a post-modern feel. That’s all well and good, but the problem is they’re hard to sing along with. That’s one of the ideas of worship music, right? To get others to sing along?

That’s what I like about Tomlin’s music. It’s simple and sing-able. And as simple as it is, it just leads you to a place where your heart is stirred and lifted to God. So, my recommendation goes to Chris’ new album, Hello Love.

Personal faves...

    • Sing, Sing, Sing
    • Jesus Messiah (Absolutely awesome worship song.)
    • You Lifted Me Out
    • Exalted
    • My Beloved

New Music

Brewsteralbum300x300 Lincoln Brewster's new album Today Is The Day has just been released. I don't hype too many albums on my blog, so when I do it's something I'm really excited about. I love this guy's music. It's great worship music by one of the real gems of Christian worship leadership. And if you're into really great guitar work, Lincoln can seriously shred!

The album is already the #1 downloaded Christian album on iTunes and #21 overall! You can check it out here. Enjoy!

It's Here!

96_2 Our first live worship CD is here and ready to go this Sunday. Gary gave me one of the first copies today and I've been listening to it all afternoon. It sounds awesome! Be sure to get your copy and at least a couple of copies to give to your unchurched friends.

Healer

Gary showed me the song list for this weekend and it includes one of our new NHC favorites - Healer. It's not only a Sunday morning fave, but it's the biggest hit generator on our youtube page. It's a great song. But sometimes the story behind the song gives it even more depth and that's the case with this song. Thought you might like to hear the story behind it. Here's a video of the author telling his story. It'll blow you away...

New Music

I know 3 Doors Down have been around for a while, but I'm just now "discovering" them. I really got hooked on this CD during my vacation. Love It's Not My Time. The lyrics just seem to fit my heart and mindset recently.  Check out the video, and I would recommend the rest of the CD as well...

Another One Home

The original Christian-rocker, Larry Norman, passed away over the weekend. I say the original Christian-rocker because Larry was doing Christian rock before there was Christian rock. He blazed a musical trail for the Chris Tomlin's and David Crowder's of today. And his music and ministry was a profound influence on a young rocker years ago - me.

Here's a video of him singing one of my favorite Larry Norman songs...

A Story Of Life Change

Just read the story of Brian "Head" Welch (not the book but a condensed version of his story). For those of you who might not know, Brian was a hardcore rocker and guitar player for the band Korn. His story is the typical story - musician hits it big and then drowns in drugs, alcohol and wild parties.

One day he overheard his 5 year old daughter singing one of Korn's songs - A.D.I.D.A.S., which stands for "allSqheadblueshirt022kw day I dream about sex." Catchy little tune for a 5 year old, huh? He said that was the thing that got his attention and he knew he had to do something.

To make a long story short, he ended up in a church where he committed his life to Jesus and experienced a miraculous deliverance from drugs and alcohol addiction. He quit the band and has written a new book about his story.

It's a great story. One that makes guys like me go, "Yea God!" But I sometimes think we latch onto celebrities like this too quickly. I don't doubt his conversion, but I don't want the church to damage him by making him the hottest new Christian celebrity either.

So let's pray for Brian and his now 9 year old daughter, as well as lots of other folks who achieve all the fame and fortune the world has to offer but wind up empty and discover they need Jesus. No matter who you are, where you go in life or how much you achieve, it will never satisfy like Jesus!

New Tunes

I've got a song/artist that I'm really digging right now. The CD is an indie release, so I can't feature album art on the blog sight, but the artist is Steve Fee. You can check out his website or download his music from iTunes. The title track is Burn For You and my heart is just connecting with it right now. Here are the lyrics:

There’s a stirring in my heart, unexplainable
There’s a calling on my days, undeniable
There’s a fire in my bones, uncontainable
And it’s causing me to burn, it’s causing me to burn
It’s causing me to burn for you

There’s a passion in my heart for the world to see
Revival fires burning, great awakening
And there’s a raging fire inside
And it’s causing me to burn, causing me to burn
It’s causing me to burn for you

I’ll go anywhere, I’ll do anything
At any cost for you my King
I’ll go anywhere, I’ll do anything
At any cost for you my King

To the ends of the earth, to the ends of the earth
To the farthest part ‘til every heart has heard
I wanna burn for you

Wow! I can't say what's in my heart any better than that. I encourage you to check out the song/CD at his website or on iTunes.
